The seven stones

• Red jasper is dense and brick-toned, the deepest red of the set.
• Carnelian runs orange to warm red, saturated and glassy.
• Citrine is pale yellow to honey.
• Green aventurine is a soft muted green.
• Blue lace agate is pale sky-blue with fine banding.
• Amethyst runs violet to deep purple.
• Clear quartz is colourless and reads as glass until the light hits it.

Because the stones are natural, colour and banding vary between pieces, and yours will not match the photograph exactly. That variation is inherent to the material, not a flaw.

Where to put one

A desk, a console, a shelf near a window or a bedside table. The one thing that genuinely matters is light: a crystal tree in a dim corner is a dark object, while the same piece within reach of a lamp or a window is a completely different thing. Its seven colours need light more than a single-stone tree does.

Looking after it

Dust with a soft dry brush, working around the beads rather than pressing on them. The wire branches bend, so you can open out the spread once it is in place. Keep the base dry and never run the piece under a tap, since water sits in the wire wrapping and will mark the base over time. Prolonged direct sun can fade some natural stone over years, so a bright room is fine but a south-facing sill in full sun all day is not.
