Choose a Lakshmi Narayan composition for your space

Look at the composition

Standing pairs, seated forms and Ananta-Sajya designs have very different proportions. Compare the full arrangement.

Measure for two figures

Check the combined height, width and base depth. A paired murti usually needs more side clearance than a solo figure.

Choose a gift that is easy to place

For weddings and housewarmings, a compact stable pair is easier to accommodate when the recipient's shelf size is unknown.

A short guide

The Lakshmi Narayan range

Read full guide Show less

Lakshmi Narayan is Vishnu with Lakshmi as his consort, the divine couple of preservation and prosperity, and the form most kept in Vaishnava households. It is also, in the standing pair, one of the more given wedding gifts we make, for the obvious reason that it depicts a devoted couple.

The forms

The standing pair, Vishnu and Lakshmi side by side, in brass and in antique finish, from 6 inches to large 12 and 10 inch antique sets. This is the everyday form and the one most bought as a gift.

Ananta-Sajya, the reclining form, Narayana asleep on the serpent Shesha with Lakshmi at his feet, depicting the cosmic sleep between creations. A wider, lower composition, so measure the full base rather than the height.

For Vishnu in his own right, see Lord Vishnu idols; for Lakshmi alone, Maa Lakshmi idols. Vishnu as Venkateswara is Tirupati Balaji.

Which material

Brass if the murti will receive abhishek or be handled daily, since it tolerates water, milk, kumkum and turmeric and cleans indefinitely. See brass idols.

Antique finish suits the larger standing pairs, giving them a temple weight. It carries a deliberate patina, so dry dusting only, never a cleaning paste. See antique finish idols.

Size and placement

A pair needs more width than a single figure. Six inches suits most home mandirs; the 10 to 12 inch antique sets are statement pieces needing a dedicated surface. Measure the shared or combined base, and on a standing figure include the crowns.

The northeast is the quadrant associated with the household shrine in the vastu tradition, which has a genuine textual lineage. Facing conventions are custom rather than text.

As a gift

A Lakshmi Narayan pair suits a wedding, an anniversary or a housewarming, carrying both preservation and prosperity. Choose a compact set when you do not know the couple's shelf. See wedding gifts and griha pravesh and housewarming gifts; for volume, corporate gifts or the bulk order enquiry page. To furnish the mandir, pooja essentials; for the wider pantheon, god idols and figurines.

Before you order

  • Standing pair or the reclining Ananta-Sajya? They suit very different spaces.
  • Measure the combined base and include the crowns.
  • Buy brass if the murti will be bathed; antique finishes are for display.
  • Buying for a wedding without knowing their space? Go compact.

The small things you wondered about

It is a paired composition of Lakshmi with Vishnu or Narayan. Designs may show them standing, seated or within a wider scene such as Ananta-Sajya.
They are common names for the same paired category. Product titles can vary, so compare the actual posture, figures, material and dimensions.
Yes, when it suits the devotional practice followed in your home and can be placed respectfully on a stable, adequately sized surface.
A solo Vishnu idol features Lord Vishnu alone. Lakshmi Narayan includes Lakshmi with Vishnu and usually needs more horizontal space.
It is a wider reclining composition centred on Vishnu, with Lakshmi and additional sculpted details. Check the full length and depth before ordering.
Measure the shelf height, width and depth. Allow clearance around both crowns, hands and ornaments, and remember that paired or reclining scenes can be much wider than a solo idol.
Use a clean, stable and respectful place that follows your family's pooja practice. Placement customs vary and should not be reduced to one universal rule.
Yes, when it suits the recipient's beliefs. A compact standing pair is easier to place if you do not know their mandir dimensions.
Brass provides traditional weight, antique finishes bring out sculpted detail, and plated designs offer a brighter look. Choose by placement, weight and care needs.
Size, material, number of figures, posture, hand-finishing, ornament detail and packaging affect price. Check the live price for the exact design.
Use a soft, dry cloth. Lift joined sets from the base and avoid water or abrasive cleaners on plated, painted and antique details.
