Face the murti east or north-east in a clean, quiet corner of your home mandir, raised a little above the floor.
Pick a height that suits your altar — a 4–6 inch murti sits beautifully on most home mandirs, while taller pieces anchor a dedicated pooja room.
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from water and harsh polish — the finish keeps its lustre for years with a light touch.
Durga Puja is the great autumn festival of Bengal, Assam and Odisha, built around large clay pratimas of Durga slaying Mahishasura, installed in community pandals over five days and immersed at the end. It is a community celebration as much as a religious one, with Pandal hopping, new clothes and the Sindoor Khela on the final day.
Because the festival murti is a large clay pratima for the pandal, a home gift is a companion to that: a Durga or Sherawali Mata murti for the household shrine, a Nav Durga pocket temple, or a diya and pooja set for the daily worship. A Lakshmi piece suits Lokkhi Pujo, which follows on the next full moon.
For the Navratri version of the festival in the north and west, see Navratri gifts. For volume, the bulk order enquiry page.
