Choosing & placing your murti

Where it belongs

Face the murti east or north-east in a clean, quiet corner of your home mandir, raised a little above the floor.

Choosing the size

Pick a height that suits your altar — a 4–6 inch murti sits beautifully on most home mandirs, while taller pieces anchor a dedicated pooja room.

Kept with care

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from water and harsh polish — the finish keeps its lustre for years with a light touch.

A short guide

The Rajarajeshwari range

Read full guide Show less

Rajarajeshwari, the queen of queens, is a form of the supreme goddess in the Sri Vidya tradition, the benevolent aspect of Devi worshipped as the ruler of the universe. She is closely identified with Lalita Tripurasundari and is central to Sri Chakra worship, kept in households in that Shakta and South Indian tradition. This collection is the brass murti.

The form

She is shown seated, crowned, four-armed, holding the noose, goad, sugarcane bow and flower arrows, the same attributes as Lalita, which mark her as the compassionate sovereign rather than a fierce form. The crown and the four attributes are the identifying detail, and worth checking they are cleanly cast in the photograph.

For the other Devi forms, see Maa Durga, Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati.

Material, size and placement

Our Rajarajeshwari is solid brass: heavy, finely detailed, abhishek-safe and cleanable indefinitely, darkening between cleanings as oxidation rather than damage. Four inches suits a home mandir. Measure the width, since the crown and attributes make the silhouette broader than a plain figure.

The northeast is the quadrant associated with the household shrine in the vastu tradition, which has a genuine textual lineage. The more specific rules, and the particular observances of Sri Vidya practice, follow the tradition of the household keeping her rather than a general convention.

As a gift

A Rajarajeshwari suits a household in the Sri Vidya or Shakta tradition and a Navratri or Devi occasion. See Navratri gifts and griha pravesh and housewarming gifts; for volume, corporate gifts or the bulk order enquiry page. To furnish the mandir, pooja essentials; for the wider pantheon, god idols and figurines.

Before you order

  • Check the crown and four attributes are cleanly cast.
  • Measure the width, not just the height.
  • Brass is abhishek-safe and cleans indefinitely. Expect it to darken between times.
✦ Questions, carefully answered

The small things you wondered about

Every product page lists the exact height and base width. Photographs flatten scale, so check both numbers against the space you have. A short piece on a broad base often takes more shelf than a taller slim one.

The material is stated on each product page. Solid brass is heavy and can be cleaned indefinitely. Plated pieces are a real layer of gold or silver over a base and should be kept dry. Marble dust is cast rather than carved. They look similar in a photograph and age very differently.

Solid brass takes a paste of lemon and salt or tamarind, rinsed and then dried completely. Plated, antique and meenakari finishes take a soft dry cloth only, because an acidic paste strips the finish rather than the tarnish.

You have 7 days to return any unused piece, for any reason, and every order is covered by our safe-arrival guarantee. If something reaches you damaged, contact us and we will replace it.
