Why a diya is the safest Navratri gift
A lamp is the one object that works for every guest, every budget and every level of religious practice in the room. It gets lit on the ninth night and every festival after.
The brass diya shaped into the word Maa at ₹849 is the obvious pick for these nine nights: you are handing someone a light and the name of the mother in the same object, and it needs no explaining. If you are buying a Durga idol as the gift

Budgets, quantities and lead time
- Under ₹1,500 gets a good brass diya or a pocket temple. This is where almost every return-gift list should sit.
- ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 gets a proper murti or a full thali set. Save these for elders and the host.
- Order 10% extra. Attendance always creeps up on a festival list.
- Order two weeks ahead. Navratri runs straight into Dussehra and Diwali, which is the busiest dispatch window of the year.
- Order one sample first above thirty pieces. Plating quality varies more than photographs show.
What to avoid
- Scented candles. They burn out and get binned. A diya does the same job permanently.
- Matching gifts to the "colour of the day". The nine-colour scheme is a recent media convention, not an old rule, and building a gift around it just limits your choices.
- Anything fragile for a large list. Glass and clay do not survive forty handbags.
- Assuming everyone celebrates the same way. A gift chosen for a dance floor and a gift chosen for a pooja shelf are different things.

Planning across the festival season
