Ask ten people when Father's Day is and most will say "sometime in June". So here is the date, and then the part you actually came for.
When is Father's Day?
Father's Day is always the third Sunday of June. That fixes it to a nine-day window: it can never fall outside 15 to 21 June. India follows the same Sunday as the United States and most of the world.
| Year | Date |
|---|---|
| 2026 | Sunday, 21 June |
| 2027 | Sunday, 20 June |
| 2028 | Sunday, 18 June |
The holiday is newer than most people assume. The United States only made it permanent by law in 1972, fifty-eight years after Mother's Day was fixed in 1914.12 There is no Hindu festival for fathers on that date, and no scriptural rule about what to give, so treat any site that quotes you one with suspicion.
Meaningful Father's Day gift ideas
Skip the novelty mug. Think about where he actually sits: his puja shelf, his car, his desk, his travel bag. A gift that joins a daily habit outperforms one that sits in a cupboard. Everything below is from our Father's Day range, with live prices.
| Budget | What to give |
|---|---|
| ₹850–₹1,300 | Brass diya, pocket temple, loban burner |
| ₹1,300–₹2,500 | Dashboard idol, Kamdhenu, Hanuman murti, pooja thali |
| ₹2,500 and up | Horse statue, larger Hanuman, antique idols |
For his puja corner
- Brass Maa Symbol Diya, ₹849. Lit every morning, which is the whole point. See the brass diyas.
- Om Brass Pooja Thali with Aarti Diya, ₹1,349. An 8 inch working thali. More pooja thalis.
- Vintage Brass Loban Burner, ₹1,199. For a father who does the evening dhoop himself. See loban burners.
If he already has a shelf, look at what is missing from it rather than adding another idol. Our list of what to keep in a pooja room is the practical starting point, and the Ganesh Lakshmi placement guide helps if he keeps a pair.
For his car
For fathers who drive a lot this is the gift they will see most often, twice a day, for years.
- Sinduri Hanuman Murti, ₹1,549. The most common dashboard choice in Indian cars, and the one most fathers pick for themselves.
- Balaji Charan with Shanku Chakra Namam, ₹1,249. Only 2 inches, so it does not block the windscreen.
- Shivji Divine Hands Dashboard Idol, ₹2,149. 5 inches, gold plated.
Read which idol is good for a car dashboard before choosing, and how to fix an idol on a dashboard so it survives a speed breaker. The car dashboard range is sized for it, and most of it sits under ₹2,000. For a new car in the family, see car blessing gifts and the gold and silver plated idols.
For his desk or his travel bag
- Ram Darbar Pocket Temple, ₹1,199. Folds shut and travels. The single most-gifted piece we sell for fathers, and the big size is ₹1,549.
- Balaji Face Idol, ₹1,249. Silver plated, wall or workspace. More in Tirupati Balaji.
- Kamdhenu Cow with Calf, ₹1,449. Kept traditionally for prosperity, and small enough for an office cabin. See the whole pocket temple line for other deities at ₹1,199.
For a father going through something
Hanuman is the usual choice, and there is real thought behind which Hanuman idol suits a home. The Panchmukhi Hanuman at ₹2,899 is the one people buy for strength; browse the rest of the Hanuman range.
For a retiring father, or a father-in-law
A milestone carries more weight than a June Sunday, which is why a retirement gift often lands better. See retirement gifts, farewell gift ideas and the retirement gifts for men range.
Fathers-in-law are the hardest brief we get. A Ganesh Lakshmi pair at ₹6,099 is the safest answer, because it goes to the household rather than to him personally. A running horse statue at ₹2,649 works for a study or an office.
What to avoid
- Novelty items. Mugs, printed cushions, "World's Best Dad" anything. They are funny once.
- Anything needing charging or a manual. If it takes setup, you have given him a chore.
- A gift he has to find space for. Under 6 inches is the rule unless you know exactly where it will go.
- Guessing his deity. If he does a specific puja, buy for that puja. A generic devotional gift is a guess, and it shows.

Care, and how to hand it over
Tell him how to look after it. Brass is forgiving and ages well. Marble is not, and cleaning a marble idol is far gentler work than most people assume, because a scrubbed idol is a damaged one.
Then the simple part. Touch his feet, feed him something he likes, sit down and let him tell a story you have heard before. Then hand him the box. That is the whole ritual, and it needs no statute.
